You do not need your own boat to get started in sailing. We have a number of boats available to members for use during training activities and for hire during race days. Every effort is made to maintain these boats to good standards and they provide a useful range of craft for different skills and abilities.
Training: We can only provide training for members, but once you have joined the Club most of our training is free. We provide help with improving sailing skills, theory, safety boat crewing and race management; Club officers are happy to advise new members. Training will take place throughout the season. See the 2017 Training Programme.
Running of HPYC The club is run by the members for the benefit of the members. As such there are two volunteer committees which keep everything ticking along. The main running of the club is done by the General Management Committee (GMC) and this oversees all aspects of the club. In addition there is also a sailing committee which manages all aspect of the clubs sailing activities.
Duties – All members are expected to undertake duties during the season. Like most clubs, we rely on volunteers and everyone doing their bit. The duties can vary depending on your skills and ability. Typically, the duties include Safety boat (Helm or Crew , Race officer or assistant (Training is provided before you are asked to perform these). We are also always on the lookout for helpers to staff the galley.
